8 Points for Acupuncture
8 important things to know or do before and after your acupuncture session
1. Opt for loose-fitting attire or bring a change of clothes. Acupuncture treatments often target points below the knees and elbows. Tight clothing, like skinny jeans and snug, long-sleeved shirts, can hinder the process. Layering is wise as it allows adjustments while maintaining your comfort and warmth. Your acupuncturist ensures modest draping when attire needs adjustment.

2. Provide honest, thorough responses during interviews. Acupuncture embraces holistic health, requiring insights into your overall well-being. Detailed history, current health, and lifestyle information aid in crafting a personalized treatment plan. Unexpected benefits like improved sleep and digestion may emerge as treatments progress.

3. Consume a light meal or snack before your appointment. Avoid an empty stomach to prevent post-treatment lightheadedness. Opt for a balance, satisfying your hunger without overindulging. Steer clear of caffeine pre-appointment.

4. Don't fear the needles! Acupuncture needles are exceptionally fine, unlike medical hypodermic needles. They are often referred to as "pins" but are much thinner. While minor sensations may occur at insertion or stimulation, acupuncture is generally painless. Rest assured, the needles are sterile, hypoallergenic, and single-use.

5. Prepare to relax. Acupuncture, though medical, offers relaxation. After needle insertion, unwind for around 15 minutes. It's an excellent opportunity for meditation, a power nap, or deep relaxation, fostering profound healing.

6. Continue relaxing post-treatment. Engage in strenuous activities before rather than after acupuncture sessions. The treatment initiates an ongoing healing process. Light activities like walking are encouraged, but be mindful of energy levels to avoid overexertion.

7. Stay hydrated. Hydration supports the body's natural healing processes and enhances acupuncture's effects. Enjoy water in the office or bring your reusable bottle. Warm water with lemon and a pinch of sea salt restores electrolyte balance.

8. Offer feedback to your acupuncturist. Pay attention to post-session sensations and share them during your next appointment. Maintaining a journal or notes helps tailor your treatment to your evolving needs. Your acupuncturist values your input for an effective, customised experience.
